I use common sewing thread. Dark brown seems to look better than black. I put a couple of drops of white glue on my index finger and run the thread through it, pinching between my thumb and finger. This teeny bit of glue dries invisible and keeps the thread from sagging between the posts. It's a bit messy but the white glue comes off my hands readily with warm water.
