I've been HO railroading for 30 years as a hobby. I Always used DC power packs and blocks. Because my layout is some years old, some of the track is brass, some is nickel silver. As one would imagine, it has been a challenge to keep clean. I have always accepted that as the price for not upgrading the brass rails.
Two months ago, I finally upgraded to DCC. What fun! Funny thing though, I haven't had to clean my track since. I noticed the power on the rails is now AC. Is DCC cleaner than regular DC?

This is the first time I have ever heard anyone say their track seems to be cleaner with DCC than with DC. Did you by any chance switch from plastic to metal wheels on your rolling stock at the same time as your switchover to DCC, or to a different type of track cleaner?

The good news...the metal wheels are the answer and generally run cleaner. The bad news...you are going to have to clean your new wheels as they will pick the crud up off the track. In other words, the crud is still there, just on your new wheels. Eventually everything will be clean.
