Need help/ideas for a new layout
Posted by Robby P. on Saturday, December 15, 2007 8:31 PM
Here it is.  I have 2 - 4x8s and alot of 2x4's.  Give me some ideas!!!!!  I am modeling Ho, and I am one that has had all 4x8.  I'm tired of them.  I wan't something neat.  I am wanting to do some switching, and some main line running.  Mostly going for your scrap, coal theme.  Right now I am still DC but will change over oneday.  I am sure some people on here came help me.  The room size is a 8 x 8. I'm open to ideas.

Sounds like it's time for a shelf layout with a duckunder maybe, or a lift bridge?

Have a look at the Heart of Georgia illustration layout for a general idea of what you can fit fairly easily on an around the walls shelf layout :  http://www.hogrr.com/

An example of a very quick and dirty sketch of a possible around the walls shelf layout (click on image to enlarge):

Shelf layouts is probably the way to go. But theme must be based on _your_ vision of what you are trying to accomplish.

Start daydreaming. What do you see in your ideal layout? A layout is not a bunch of track, it's a vision. Find the vision.

Try reading my beginner's guide in my signature. Takes about 5 minutes.
