Need some quick help with my layout
Posted by gregman1069 on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 7:17 PM
I have the Polar Express set and am using the Fastrack that came with the set. This year I am adding a Thomas the Tank Engine set with the same oval track. I don't have time or space to come up with a new display for Christmas and I want to reveal the train that morning for my 3 yr old. How can I put one oval around the other? I know it's a matter of different curved peices and maybe some small straights but I was wondering if someone here might be able to help. Like I said, I don't really have time and really don't have the space to do a major reworking right now. Thanks in advance.
I think I could be a good people person... if it weren't for the people.

Add 4 straights to the outside track, one on each side in the center of the curve and one to each straight.

Or take one of the straights from each side of the inside loop and add it to the center of the curves of the outside loop.

   I might suggest duplicating your layout, which is I believe O-36" in O-48". Read under one of your curves and verify it is O-36" . if so duplicate all in 48" but you'll need another transformer to keep it REAL simple.

  Lionel has a GREAT Fastrack book that answers all these questions, well, does a good job of opening ones eyes anyway. CLICK HERE to go to the link then shop for it. I think I found mine for 20 bucks on Amazon.

   Good Luck!

 Hmmm, I was unable to make a working link, hmmmm try this;

You may have to add the equals sign, I dunno this software is ummm...FREAKING   LOL

Thanks. That's kind of what I thought I would have to do. I didn't know to look under the track. I have actually 3 sets of the same oval. I can make it work by adding a 10" peice to each side and then adding a total of 7 1/2" to the center of each end. I have to use a 4 1/2" and two 1 3/4" peices which I will try to find at my local shop. I've seen that book and would love to have one. The amount of space I have to work with is VERY limited, so next year I'll have to think a little harder. Two O gauge trains is enough for now, I'll start working on the layout next. Thanks again.
