Western Maryland RR & NKP RR Fans/Historians Help!
Posted by jdtractorboy on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 7:12 AM

Howdy,

I have decided that my layout currently under contruction will be a fictional junction of the NKP with the WM.  What I would like to know is what colors did the two roads typically paint their structures?

Also, are there any really nice interlocking tower kits, in N Scale, that would look good with these two roads in mind at the junction?

Thanks

Chuck

WESTERN MARYLAND painted most of its structures a medium grey with burgandy/maroon trim.

Im not sure if it will turn up anything, am looking now.

This one is Union Bridge. I remember that it has changed very little. The Historical Society for WM is probably located there, Im not certain. They may be able to help.

Dunno about the WM, but the NKP painted their structures like this:

The "correct" paint colors (all Polly Scale) are Milwaukee Road gray for the body, grimy black for the windows and baggage doors, black for the pass-through doors, and a 3/4 to 1/4 mix of white and Milwaukee Gray for the trim. The roof shingles (and the NKP ONLY used shingles) should be depot olive, but I prefer a "greener" color (mine's 2/3 olive and 1/3 VT green).

re there any really nice interlocking tower kits, in N Scale, that would look good with these two roads in mind at the junction?

AMB kit 602 is about as generic, and as typical, as you'll find in N scale without scratch building.
