Peco & Hornby Setrack turnouts potential modifications
Posted by samike on Thursday, October 18, 2007 9:25 AM

Hi all,

Some time ago I "picked-up" 20 odd new HO Hornby & Peco setrack turnouts for next to nothing from a toyshop that was closing down.  I now want to use them in a small 10 x 5 shelf L shape switching layout and was contemplating making some improvements so that they are more like the ordinary Peco streamline turnouts in terms of the gaps between the trackrails and the guard rails as well as narrowing the gap at the frog.  I was thinking of using epoxy putty to fill the gaps and run a set of wheels with the old fashion deeper flange to reset the flange clearances before the exopy sets.  Has anyone tried this?

Regards,

Mike.

A number of folks have glued a thin styrene strip along the guard rails to narrow that gap, tapering the edges. Probably easier than what you are describing.
