I am using atlas code 100 flex for my layout. I am in need of 2 curve turnouts. The Shinohara are the only ones that I have found to be 100 and curved.
Do these match up well with the atlas code 100?? Thanks for the help. I am just to the point of cutting out the ribbon for my roadbed.
thanks
Chuck
As long as both are code 100 rail, there should be no problem in connecting them together with an Atlas rail joiner.
My experience with Shinohara turnouts is that they have a "hot frog" which changes polarity according to which point rail is making contact with the stock rails, so you have to insulate both rails that diverge from the frog area with insulated rail joiners.
Shinohara may have changed this design recently if their turnouts are now billed as being "DCC Friendly."
Shinohara turnouts used to be made with rail which had a wider base and narrower head than that used by Atlas flex. To avoid problems with the microscopic misalignment, bevel the inside of the railhead (about .001" across the rail, 1/16" long) on each side of the joint. If a finger sliding along the inside of the railhead doesn't snag, there won't be anything to cause a flange to climb up and over.

Peco turnouts also come in curved models for Code-100, I think in 2 different radii. One comes in about 24" base, and another in a much wider base radius. Both come in Insul-frog and Electrofrog models. I like the Electrofrogs as a 2-axle switcher doesn't hang up on the dead frog.. I haven't checked their specs, but just fit my track planning around them after purchase. Another source is Walthers, which look much like the Shinoharas.
Not all makers' curved turnouts are the same length, so have at least 1 on hand before designing a closely-spaced nest of them. Found this out the hard way....
Have fun, George

I had no problems with that same setup. I use all Shinohara code 100 TO's (std, curved, crossover, e) with Atlas flex on the mains. Code 100 even has the same total height. Do file the ends a touch as Chuck recommends. The ties look a bit different but after ballasting and weathering ...
BTW For code 83 you need to shim up the TO's a bit. I just used two layers of wood verneer.
Good Luck
