Changing decals on IHC steam engines
Posted by TheK4Kid on Saturday, August 4, 2007 4:43 PM

How difficult would it be to change the factory installed decals or markings on an IHC 2-10-2 steam engine and remark it with Pennsylvania decals and numbers?

Internet Hobbies is running a sale on several IHC engines, regularly $129.00 for $79.00.

They don't have any PRR marked engines.

Anyone done this inthe past?

Just curious if it is easy or difficult.

 Thanks,

 Ed

Not too bad.  I used to get the original factory lettering off by soaking in in solvaset (decal setting solution) and then rubbing it with a pencil eraser.  The slightly gritty kind of eraser.  Worst comes to worst, you can paint over the old lettering with dark gray auto primer (spray can) and then redecal.  Steamers are easier than diesels, 'cause they just have white letting over black background.
