Grass Carpte Warehouse

These scratch built warehouses housed bales of Carex grass fiber, used in making carpet from about 1900 to 1930. The manufacturing plant was located in St. Paul. Swamp grass was cut from wetlands in Carlos Avery and near Grantsburg, WI and stored in these warehouses before woven into grass rugs. Buildings constructed from styrene for siding and windows and doors from Tichy, corrugated roof material, some scratch wood. Roof sheathing made from reinforced cardboard.
