Originally the South Pacific Coast RR tracks crossed Santa Clara St. at grade to get to their West San Jose depot. When Southern Pacific built the Cahill St. depot here in the 1930's they built this overpass. Now UP freights, and CalTrain, ACE, Amtrak California and the Amtrak Coast Starlight passenger trains use it.
