Galena Copper Mine on the McQueen Line Mining Railroad

Posted by bline1

One of two mining operations on the railroad, the Galena Copper Mine with attendent company-owned worker houses and company store is representative of a typical mining company town.  Originally intended as a lead mine more typical of those once found near Galena, Illinois, copper was instead chosen, as the copper colored paints used to simulate ore veins and masses showed better against the scenery than did the lead color.
