Yes Eric i to have noticed it in other parts of the Orient, Singapore, Malaysia and Korea and i think it is to do with what you have said but also to do with different set of values for good manners, not better or worse, just different.For instance if you were to pick up a soup plate and drink straight out of it this would be bad manners but in Japanese and Chinese societies it is quite good manners tro do this.Rgds Ian
