Kadees for Bachman 2-4-2 t
Posted by jerryl on Monday, June 25, 2007 8:19 AM
The Bach. 2-4-2-t has a dual swivel coupler on the front & rear to allow it to operate on small radius track.  Anyone installed Kadees on this engine ? if so how did you do it to make it work on small radius curves without looking stupid?   To make matters more complicated I want to change the height to match the Bach. 20.3-1 freight cars.   Thanks.....Jerry

I didn't change the couplers to Kadees on my Bachmann 2-4-2T, but you don't have to adjust the height of the couplers. The bachmann 1:20.3 rolling stock comes with additional Low-set couplers in the box that it came in. All you have to do is replace the existing couplers on the rolling stock with the low set couplers, and then the rolling stock will be compatible with all the engines that Bachmann makes.

Guess I didn't make myself clear. I mounted # 820 Kadees to the bottom of the 20.3 cars with no modification except to drill & tap for 2-56 mounting screws.   I pushed them up to the rear of the engine & marked the required mounting height onto the engine. I had to remove the coupler mounting lug, glue a .150 thick mounting pad on the bottom of the engine & cut a 3/8" deep notch the width of the coupler box to allow the coupler box to be mounted to the pad.  The problem was how far I would have to extend the coupler to allow for the small radius curves.   Still working on that aspect.   The 820 Kadees make a world of difference to the looks &  realism of both engine & rolling stock.   thanks for your reply.   Jerry

I don't know about the Kadee no.820.On my Bachmann 2-4-2t I used the Kadee no.779,they can be mounted at what ever highth you need.I use 5'dia.curve track and have no problems with the couplers. The 779s really look good on the loco too.just my 2 cents,David
