pond built but flu needed

Over weekend built a lake using chicken wire, quikrete and covering of vinyle patching concrete (to seal it).  There's about 12 feet of elevation at one end of the lake (behind where taking pictures). Plan to build a working flu to shoot logs into the lake. Will add a pump to get the water up to top of flu. Don't know when I'll finish that. Need to find photos of flues.

BB will probably lay in the lake when weather gets 100 degrees.

The Calif Misc section of that link shows a flume boat. Didn't know they had such a thing. Nice link & thanks.

 

If I must, here's the messy construction area. I'm standing on the hill above the pond from which the flue will be built. I just completed that return loop about 2 weeks ago. Was thinking of putting a tunnel on the near side as there's about 12-18" of cut, but I like the cut better.

thanks! flume got me more hits than flue. I saw one of those flumes back in early 60s on Lassie or Rin Tin Tin; or perhaps it was Abbot & Costello; can't seem to place it. They make great rides before they had those water rides.

I'm gonna do it for scenics and for sound of water dropping into pond as you can see from photo it would be unlikely to have a waterfalls there with the loop track going round

How deep is your pond and approx. gallons ??? - that would control how much water you could allot to either falls or flume. What other noise is in the area (major street, etc) because a small amount "dropping in" would be easily overwhelmed, also how close will the nearest vantage point be where people would be able hear and see the water feature?

Others have mentioned it, but the word is flume.  Usually, but not always, of wood.  To make it look real, it has to leak a lot, but that's usually not a problem.

Easy way to make a flume is to get vinyl rain gutter in the length you need, then "skin" it with wood.  Flumes usually ride on some sort of trestle.  Ancient Roman viaducts (the same thing but built to last) use stone arches.  As often as possible, the flume was built on the ground.

 Just remember the flume has to slope away from its source, else you've got a linear swamp!  Be sure to let us see the pix!
