Light House to Water Tower conversion

Light House from Wal~Mart:

Light houses are now on clearance at Wal~Mart, for $20 I picked up this one.

Soon as the wife saw it she went off on me, "You don't need another light house!"  Then I told her that I intended to change the color of the black an white striping, add a round bird house and call it a municipal water tower.  Then she approved.

Think I'll take the light fixture off of the platform as it is held in place by three little folded tabs.  That way I can keep the safety railing around the bottom of the tank.

Haven't yet decided what color to paint the tower portion of the building.  This is another "Me Proof" project.

Very clever! That should work out nicely.

Tom,

Have you used the light portion that you took off ?

The one that I picked up during their $10 blowout has gone kaput. After dismantling it I believe it had poor build quality which resulted in water intrusion and the LED leads corroded causing one to break at the LED base. If I can't find an appropriate LED replacement and you aren't going to be using that portion would you want to sell it ?

Doug:
Sorry but the part in question is firmly attached to the Flatbottom house, with a half tube of silicon sealant.

Hope yours lasts longer than mine. Spent part of the morning at Radioshack and Frye's but alas no luck. Make sure that the top is well sealed, mine leaked and all that moisture went rite to the LED leads. Sad [:(]

Nice idea Tom. It looks like a trip to Wally World may be in order.

Good news. Found a new LED yesterday at a different Radioshack, with a little help from a friend, and the lighthouse is back in operation. Surpringly, with my lousy soldering skills, I didn't ruin the circuit board. Shock [:O] When it was reassembled I was very generous with the silicone sealer.
