How "nice" is good enough? Have you tried the five and dime? Seriously. -- I found mine as bagged farm and zoo animals in the toy aisle at the local KMart. Some of the foreground aminals I repainted, most I just used as-is Okay, I had to throw away (well, give away) about half of them because they were the wrong scale, but at $3 a bag I ended up with enough cows, horses, sheep and pigs (and a bear) to suit me for a LOT less than Preiser. My 6YO (then 4) was more than happy to have the 6 (scale) foot tall roosters and the rest of the cast offs. If you are a bit fussier or just want something spendier, Breyer's "Paddock Pals" horses are 1:24, and I think there are cows and other stuff available the same size from them Don't forget you can always use smaller than scale items in the background to force perspective...just make sure the things that are side by side are too disparate BTW I'm sure you already noticed the regular "big hauler" stuff is 1:22.5
