LGB europe
Posted by kimbrit on Monday, March 26, 2007 6:40 AM

Hi,

Looks like things have gone down hill very quickly for LGB now. At Bay Models this weekend and the stock of LGB track was very low indeed, luckily they had 2 radius 5 points in that I wanted so I overspent and got them. Also spoke with Sandy at Scottish Garden Railways this morning and he has the bits for my mallet, after a long wait. He's been speaking to others in the trade and it looks like the factory is now closed and new investors are wanted. We talked about LGB of America and touched on the deal they've done with Bridgeworks for power packs, makes a mockery of the LGB guarentee about only using their power packs doesn't it.

Cheers,

Kim

Kim

I'd bet alot of the track shortages are due to some people panic buying. LGB is in a bad spot, no doubt. Everyone thought it was all over with , but its going to be a long haul for the company, and no matter what the the most dyed-in-the-wool Red Box Brigadiers want, the company as we have known it, will not survive. What comes out of it will be a different animal. It wouldnt surprise me to end up with LGB of America being the only part of EPL/LGB to survive all this, but that begs the question, how much of the old company will they be able to provide, seems like alot of issues like ownership and copyrights are still far from unresolved. If Marklin buys LGB, will they relabel old LGB products as Marklin? They would have the right too. Would they "retire" some products that might compete with their own models? No matter how you slice it, this is going to a tumultuous year for EPL.

Be careful, Vic, Davros is watching you!

The Supreme Dalek will meet his match with The Doctor.

Actually, on the track, we might be surprised to find this supply issue didn't start this year.

Have you thought of the possabilty that production could go to the far east, then we all know what will happen. Banged Head [banghead]

two tone,

LGB has been producing products in China for several years now. Many people did not even know it because the quality has not changed. The same materials are being used, its just a little longer boat ride to the hobby shops. From personal experience, I have a German made Forney and a China made Forney; they are identical!!! The only difference is that the German colors are not printed on the box.

Hmm.

Seems there were LOTS of QC issues with the PRC made stuff.

Drover's cabooses spring readily to mind.

Where did you come up with the H0 Dalek?
Do believe I'd like to get me one of those.

 Possibly a TARDIS, also.

TOC, it's a 1/8 scale Comet model Dalek from England.   I have two, a movie version (Peter Cushing) and a TV version as shown in the photo.  I also have two Doctors, Tom Baker and Patrick Troughton, also 1/8 Comet but in vinyl.  The Daleks were purchased from a used book store in Richmond, and the Doctors came from a warehouse fire sale.

OK, all modelers from the UK cover your ears on the next part!  I believe I paid around $80 for the movie Dalek, about $55 for the TV Dalek, and the Doctors set me back a cool $110 a pop.   I know that Comet at one time made all the Doctor Who models, but I think they are now defunct.  In any case, you just can't get these models in the US without shelling out some serious cash.  But I'm a big Doctor fan from waaaayyyy back, so I view these as a good purchase.   I'm sure in the UK you can get these at any corner store for pennies, but not here!

NO, they are not for sale.  Maybe for a swap, but not for sale.

No its not for sale, need something to do for my retirement.

Been looking for a couple of smaller ones, make an interesting load for a flatcar

Cool, any idea how big those RC Daleks are?, that would be awesome to chase the cat around the house with!

I would LOVE to get one of those EAGLE models, but I dont think I could convince SWMBO that its really industrial art, not a toy model...!
