G Scale water tower

Does anyone know where I can get plans to scratch buid a water tower for my G scale outdoor lay out?

Jim,
You don't say if there is a particular type/style you are looking for. If you go to www.ghostdepot.com and do a search under buildings you can purchase plans for the Chama water tower. I built it in 1/24 scale and it stands about 22 1/2 inches tall and is 12 inches in diameter. You may be able to build just looking at there drawings and writting down the dimensions.
If you go to www.blackstonevalley.com they sell kits and have a lot of interesting information. This would help in building your water tower if you choose not to buy the kit.
If you are looking for a spout and the band adjusters, Hartford Products has them in 1:20.3. But it is not noticeable that it is larger as big as the water tower is.

The "Old time" water tower from PIKO, is it a wise purchase at about 40-50$? I need to equip my line with water towers and coaling stations, the price seems right...but I don't want to get someting that will not work on my layout.

I got an Aristo one off Santa last year and its pretty good, MS Santa said it didn't cost much either.

I used plans in the gazette for a SPC covered water tower. The plans were S scale, but it just took an hour with a calculator to redo the dimensions for 1:20.3. It's going together just about right (despite my failings as a builder) so the method can't be too far out.

I have......4 Polas (I think...the big ones) and love them. Have a couple of AC units on branch lines to simply show a difference.
I have had one big problem with these.
The brass bands. They work-harden in cold weather and snap.
I obtained a whole set of replacements, went through about all of them.
You could be in the house and hear a "pow!" out on the rr, next morning find one or two bands snapped and the ladder halfway across the yard.
I fixed it with re-bar tie wire (like baling wire).
Remove the brass.
Determine what is "back", not normally viewed.
Starting at the bottom, drill two holes in the "groove" about 1/16 to 1/8" apart.
Wrap wire around tank, cut leaving about 2" extra on each end. Insert one end in one hole about 2", bend over 180 degrees.
Pull wire around, keeping it seated in the groove, insert in second hole, grab with needlenose and pull TIGHT, bend over 180 degrees. Hot-glue or super-glue from inside, move to next one up.
These rust naturally, and streak the tank just like the real thing.

Plans? What do you need plans for? I made this with a couple photos, some craft sticks and some scraps of wood. Oh. A a styrene tube, a kid's necklace from Wal Mart, some fishing weights, a bunch of toothpicks...

Plan set # 39 is a 1:20.3 watertower.
