matching cars for shay

I have been running mostly aristocraft narrow gauge on my outdoor layout ,but recently purchased a bachmann shay which pretty much dwarfs all my rolling stock.My question is what are some decent cars out there that will sort of match  this loco..I purchased some bachmann ore cars that look ok but cant seem to find anything else such as a caboose or box cars etc.

Both Bachmann and AMS make 1:20.3 scale rolling stock that matches their Shay.  If you're into kit building, you can also get suitable rolling stock from Northeast Narrow Gauge in Wiscasset, Maine.

Accucraft just introduced some logging disconnects that would go very well behind the B'mann Shay. LGB also has logging disconnects that are very similar. Don't know what the prices are for either. Bachmann sells a skeleton log car which would be appropriate. LGB used to have a similar car, though I don't know if it's still in production. Probably--LGB doesn't let molds go unused.

As Charles mentioned, any of the rolling stock from AMS (Accucraft) or Bachmann's new "Spectrum" rolling stock would also be quite appropriate. Ready-to-run cabooses would have to come from AMS.

They take some time to make but Hartford Products makes several kits for logging cars in 1:20.  Check out their site at

If you are running tight radius curves, you may want to call and see what size curves each kit can handle.

thanks for the info..I checked out the accucraft cabooses...nice but pretty expensive..I'm in the process of upgrading a bachmann caboose...they have pretty nice bodies,but thats about it. the logging car from hartland looks very nice...again thanks for the imput

Like kstrong said, Accucraft (AMS) is coming out with some log cars very soon, and the pricing actually isn't too bad considering trucks and couplers are included.  Best prices I have found so far are at http://www.rctrains.com/Rolling_stock%20AMS.htm.  I am not associated with them in any way - I just googled it.

I may have to save up and buy a few of them short ones...
