Train Display

This is my first attempt at a post, we'll see if the picture shows up.

 I don't have a permanent layout, but my wife allows me to set up 3 displays a year.  This is one I did at a retirement community near our house.  This is the second time I have set up at this retirement community.  The first time was 2 years ago.  Since the first time, they have / are working on an outside railroad of their own.

I am sure many of you have traveled with all or parts of your railroad.  I would be interested in pictures.  What has worked? What have you chalked up to experience?   What types of places have you gone?

This is a wonderful place for you to display your trains! I'll bet it gives hours of enjoyment to the folks there. If you are interested, I compile a list of train displays like this that are on display for the holidays. If it ok with the retirement community, you can forward your information to me and I'll be happy to put it in the magazine and/or our web site.

I have not decided on a 2007 schedule yet, but I will keep you posted.

I get a kick out of seeing what works and what doesn't.
... a lot like running a business. 
You choose your market or audience
You choose your product (what you want to present)
You market your event
You make it happen

The two types of audiences I have gone for so far are retirement communities and
a local garden center. 

I have been pleased with the response from both types.
The retirement community people love the trolley and
quite often have stories to tell.  Everyone (except maybe
the rivet counters) likes the aristo egg liner.  I always
try to include one or both on the display.

I also try to include custom cars with local business names as well as known
national brands.  It is surprising how many people notice.
New brands or off names should be avoided if you decide to try this.

With the retirement communities my wife works with the activities director,
making sure they have posters, and any information they need for their
newsletters.  The last run we did at the garden center, we invited
some of the retirement communities to stop by.  The response was great.

I am currently working thru ideas for 2007.
Any feedback on things you have helped with, either with clubs or as individuals would be very helpful.

Yes mate i also think your display and the thinkingbehind it is excellent.

But what do you mean you wife allows you, if your not master in your own castle; where are you in life?

Welcome to the forum! I was just reading old emails and came across yours regarding the Fathers Day displays. You did an awesome job with what you setup! The garden centre setting is perfect for what we do. Keep up the awesome job! Later eh...Brian.

Good to hear from you again,  I've enjoyed the information on your father's day events, and ran across the forum looking for an update.  I always seem to learn something by seeing what other people are doing both in personal setups and public displays.
