Just wanted to say "hello". I just got into G-Scale railroading going on 2-1/2 years now and so far so good. I've racked up a doz and a half cars and 5 engines. I have nothing set up because of limited space but I usually find room around the x-mas tree for a simple oval during the holidays. As soon as I get into a real home with a full basement, I plan to set up something more permanent. I have lots of ideas but until then they'll just have to sit in their boxes till I can build a display case- hopefully soon.

Speaking of x-mas.... I asked Santa for a Morton Salt refer, Winchester Guns refer. Anyone have any ides where I might be able to find these cars? And since they don't make em anymore, how much can I be expected to pay for them?

Welcome to the forum. I'm new to "G" scale myself, but have been involved in model railroading for a long time. I find large scale very exciting and am going the live steam route.

Regarding the "out of production" items you're looking for, I would imagine your best bet would be MRR Shows. Another place to look (from your easy chair) would be Ebay. If you already are an Ebayer, you know that you can list what you're looking for and Ebay will notify you when (and if) they appear. Also, searching for your items will give you an idea of what they're selling for. Perhaps other readers of your post can give you additional ideas. There are other forums where people buy / sell / trade stuff.

Hope you get a place to "play with your trains", it must be frustrating having all that stuff and just looking at 'em.

Just joined the forum myself today. I too have been running Large scale for about 2-1/2 years. Before that it was HO for well over 25 years. I have a layout in my backyard that is about half done. I also have one under construction in my basement. This one will run around the entire perimeter of the basement and is wall mounted. Takes up very little space with tunnels through the walls. It is starting to look really interesting as it takes shape. I will post pics as soon as I can. Have fun and keep running whatever you can as often as you can. Later eh...Brian.

I'm tickled pink at all the long time indoor modelers that are coming to the Garden and Gauge 1 or "G" scale.

I'm a live steamer who has only been at it for under 4 years now and did NO model RR'ing prior to that. I have One running loco with a five car consist and another I just got that has to be assembled yet.

I'm looking forward to chatting with you guys on the details of Layout modelling. I'm sloppy at that, tending to put all my up-front money in good steam locos which have become my passion and priority as far as Garden RR's are concerned.

This is exactly what I had in mind. I hope you'll take "work-in progress" shots for us to peek at once in awhile. sounds like fun.

Thanks... I tied Ebay and found a couple of things that I'm interested in. I will also try to search for MRR shows too.

I am keeping track of my work in progress with video. Not sure exactly how to post shots for everyone to see. Having someone walk me through it would be great. Had a problem with my Panasonic Mini DV loading onto my computer. Called Panasonic and they gave me some software upgrades. Yet to do that. Amazes me also how many people are moving over to Large Scale. For me now it is the only way to go. I have also been on other forums and for me this one is by far the best. Hello to All fom spur42 in Queensland Australia. I have just joined up this Christmas. I have also graduated from ho inside to garden railroading. My layout has been under construction only 3 months, but I have 4 sons and 13 grandchildren who all pitch in to keep progress steady. My layout is called F.A.I.R.Y. (Fantasy And Imagination Railway Yard) and I have bought an Alps printer just to make sure that the motive power and rolling stock bears the right names. I'll keep it short but to date I have 20 locos and about 30 wagons on 450 feet of track. It's a start....should be about 3/4 months for pictures. regards to all spur42
