California Fire Relief Fund
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, November 3, 2003 3:05 PM
To All Model Railroaders: There is a relief fund being setup for modelers in California that have been affected by the fires. If you know of people who are model railroaders and have been directly affected by the fires please let me know. You can email me at baxteres4@charter.net. We are working on setting this fund to help with the rebuilding of the lives of those fellow railroader who have been devastated by these awful fires. If you would like to contribute to this fund you may also email me and I will add your address to the list of people who will be notified when the fund is completely setup. Thank you for the support of the 'Best Hobby in the World'

I must now update this post with the following information. I have tried to contact several model railroad organizations in the southern Califonia area but none have returned my messages. Therefore, I must abandone the effort to establish a fire relief fund for Model railroaders. The only suggestion that I can give to those of you who would still like to help out is to send you support and donations directly to someone you know who has been devasated by these fires or send them to a relief organization like the red cross. Thanks for your support.

Scott, I applaud your desire to help "Modelers" in California, but I must warn everyone that unless they are helping someone that they personally know, ie.friends and family that "Scam Time" has arrived. Please don't get me wrong.... just make sure that the real folks in need are the ones who get the help. The American Red Cross and the Salvation Army come to mind along with disaster zone soup kitchens and shelters.....

I assure you Slick that my intentions were the most honorable... I have as can read, discontinued this effort due to lack of communication with honorable groups in the stricen area.... Thank you for your concern though.

Scott, I have no doubt about your intentions, the Model Train Community may be far flung and held together by the web in many cases but as I've noticed , full of Good People. My warning to all concerns the few Rat @$%^@%$# that come out of the wood work whenever tragedy strikes . Living within sight of the WTC 's smoke column showed me how fantastic folks can be when it's time to help their neighbors, even people they have never met..... It's early yet, before too long we should be able to offer proper aid to those that need it. By the way Scott, people like you help make America Great, "Keep The Faith". Dan McGrath.
