LGB Hooks
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, December 15, 2006 1:48 PM

I'm soo ticked off at LGB.  I am trying to add more "hooks" to the hook and coupler system, so my trains stop disconnecting.  I'm having trouble with the little piece you put in to hold the hook in place.  Any ideas on how to get it in?  It has a little lip, so it's not a round piece going into the round hole.  And it's two pieces that seem to work against each other.

I'm so mad I'm ready to sell all my LGB stock and locos...which number close to 900.  Yes, I'm the largest collector in Texas...but maybe not for long.

This is SOOO frustrating!!!

Thanks in advance for your help

And another thing about the see-thru FA&B train.  I'm trying to put a hook on the front of the A unit (since I'm trying to run an A-B-A set), yet the front of the A train has some kind of guard over the front of it...and it seems like it will interfere with the hook (assuming I can get it on - which I can't yet).

Does anyone know if the A Unit is designed so it can't pull cars with having the hook in the way.  (Assuming I can get the hook connected, I would be REALLY ticked if it then can't operate with a hook to pull the cars.)

Thanks again for your help.

Put the pin in reversed, push it halfway down and then turn it around so the "D" shape is positioned correctly and push it down the rest of the way.

Have to take a look at the clear F unit and get back to you.

I have a different method, and that is i use two sets of pliers a small set of long nose to squeeze the sides together; then a larger set to go round the lot to drive the peg into the hole.

Put a set both on the front and the back of your rolling stock. If you are still getting disconnections have a look at your layout for uneveness and opposing cambers.

I've just gone back to hooks and loops, I don't necessarily like them but they are reliable when I'm doing something else in the garden and not watching trains.

....one thing I've found is that over time the pins tend to "dry-out" and become very inflexible and difficult to pushin.

.... only solution to this I've found is to bin the old pin and try another, hopefully, younger more flexible pin....

I have found the LGB hook & loop system extremely reliable. Uneven track can be a problem, a more subtle problem is the use of metal replacement wheels. They are not all the same scale and then add the problem of uneven trackbed and cars will disconnect.

You know every person has his/her own taste in there road. I just could not see myself not using knuckles....but it might come back in years to come and bite me and I wished I had them!? My 2 cents [2c]
