Status of LGB Trains & Materials
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, December 6, 2006 10:00 AM
I have recently encountered some difficulty in obtaining the necessary components to build a catenary system for my trolley.  The grapevine has it that LGB is experiencing financial difficulties.  Is this true and what is the latest word about their product availability?

Dear Tom,

For the latest on the LGB Insolvency situation you can check here for the translation of the most recent Court proclamation . You can also check the LGB Website for their latest update.

According to the Court document the process will continue well into 2007.

Hope that helps.

Best regards

My understanding is that LGB is now back in control of itself after re-financing and LGB of America is a seperate company that has promised to make LGB its main supplier of goods. I expect that in reality this means LGB will stagger along for a while longer and LGB of America will buy whatever it wants from whomever it wants. This is why I've spent a lot of money on LGB recently, just in case my own personal view is correct.

I believe I need all the following:

#55201, 56203, 56204, 56400, and 56401.

I would like to have my trolley run on a cantenary system.  I think that is all I need.

My local vendor, St. Aubin's has access to all but one.

According to St. Aubin's reply and I quote:

"According to LGB's availability list 56400 & 56401 are unavailable at either East or West Coast locations. We are trying to get the items in but they have not arrived yet. Jim "

Is this information accurate????

If this is true, then I hope that knuckle couplers from then on out are on the list.

Tom,

These items 56400 (Catenary mast)and 56401(catenary mast wire) are on order at the moment. We've received shipments from EPL over the last couple of days and there is a chance that they might have come in. I will check and let you know. If not it will probably be sometime after we do our annual warehouse inventory at the beginning of the year.  Hope this helps.

Tom,

I received a note from our product manager in reply to my inquiry about these parts and I thought this particular excerpt from his emal applies:

" Numerous newer locos and cars are quite long and do not clear the older masts on sharp curves.  So the masts are being replaced by new models which have adjustable spacing.  (See your LGB Info 2006 brochure or your LGB 2006 Catalog.)  The new masts come separate from the adjustable base parts.  This also offers the ability to remove the masts from the layout (for example, to avoid stepping on them when they're hidden by a foot and a half of snow).  The feeder mast is being replaced by a feeder wire attached to a connection clip.  LGBoA does have the newer items in stock and should also have the older ones back in stock soon."

I have to say Jack that you are giving an excellent service to members of the forum, thanks very much. Do you know if the european side is back on track with spares/accessories, my Sumpter is in need of axles/gears/skates etc and the dealer thinks it will take some time.

Cheers,

Kim

Can't speak for the EU but the parts situation here in the States seems fine.

Last February, I placed several orders with my favourite supplier for LGB products which were to have been released in 2006 (including stainless switches and 1 channel switch decoders).  Does anyone have any idea if LGB is intending to produce the remainer of their "new" products for 2006?  Also, I'm searching for a source for a PRR Mogul ..... is there a source for these as they seem to have disappeared from the market?  - Jim

Jack should be able to answer this a lot better than me but he hasn't even come back to me about my detection module, guess he is oretty busy. howver i do have my detection module now and i got it from Trainworld, suggest you try them. they are not very communicative but pretty efficient, i  was amazed at how quickly they fixed me up , a bit dearer then Ridge Road but a lot more efficient.
