What guage wire do LGB transformers use?
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, October 21, 2006 11:52 PM

Hi,

I ended up picking up an older style LGB transformer (just like this one:  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230035516811) for $20.00 locally.  My only problem is that the track connectors (black clips with wires on them) that clip onto the track, are a bit short (layout is on the ceiling).  So, I figured I would solder on some longer wires on to the ends (tranformer end) to make the LGB track connectors longer.

So, with that being said, what size is the standard LGB wiring?

Thanks,

Rich

I'm cheap, I use medium speaker wire like you get at Wally, so far no problems

Indoors for the starter power pack, speaker cord, lamp cord will be just fine to use.

Outdoors, you need UV protected wire and the best kind for cost is the low voltage outdoor lighting wire such as Malibu.

For more robust power supplies the larger the wire size the better when running big engines/long trains.
