Are they? I am considering purchasing one soon. Are they hard to put together, etc.? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi train 284
I would say it is a good starter loco and a good one to learn with
it is reletevly inexpencive.
There are a number of of after market parts for it some
to improve the appearance like wooden cabs ect and some mean't to improve its performance like larger cylinders and improved gas burner.
Being a steam locomotive it will have its moments that drive you mad
But it is very popular so should not be that difficult to put together
and if you get into problems some one will be able to help you.
just remember as with all kits take your time to familiarize yourself with the parts and take it slow paying attension to the instructions and the care with which you finish it and you will have a locomotive to be proud of
regards John

I put one together without any previous live steam experience. Takes some patience and attention but makes a nice, if plain little loco. I highly reccomend to tool kit.
Hope to add some details later but have been just happy to have it done.
