LGB ROLLING STOCK

I pretty much had ignored LGB for rolling stock until a friend ,who owns a train shop, put a LGB centerflow hopper in his display window . I seen it and
now have 7 of them dif. roads to this I added about 20 USA CFs. I started
looking at LGB alittle closer and found 55' flats and 55' box cars and 55'
tank cars all seem to fit more modern theme .Do any of you know if there
are any more that may fit here LGB or other Manf. I like to pull with about 4 to 5 diesels about 35 to 45 cars .

USA Trains make the long modern tank cars (longer than the LGBs) , and they also make the Intermodal Container Cars. If you get Garden Railways, look in the Dealer Index and look for Charles Ro Supply Company.

I think LGB decided to enter the 1:29 market with these modern cars to compete with A/C and USA trains. I also think the cars are nice. Now they have introduced a 1:29 loco to the list. [:0]

As TMCCman said, the USA Trains container cars are to die for. You need to check them out. [;)]

ZachsPappaw, I agree with you. Those cars are gorgeous. I am trying to save enough money to buy a 5 car set.

I forgot to add the Aristo Craft makes the Evans Modern Double Door Boxcar, and they come in a lot of modern roadnames.

Although those are sweet cars, I think they need to be run in a unit train, not in a mixed freight, (as Ed was talking about mixed freight I think). [;)]

I also would run the intermodal as a unit train. [:p]

Ed: LGB makes those nice flats, which are on blowout at a few dealers, you could do as I did, pick up a bunch of those then add the USA Trains containers to the cars for a COFC train. [:0]

Jack, BTW, LGB needs to run those ore cars in DM&IR and then paint a Mikado to match. [}:)]

Jack, that would be sweeeeeet. If I had the money, I would have about 100 in a unit train. Now that would be sweet.

I only run LGB as i must, they are the only ones that will take R1 curves. I have in my area 1 15 R1 curves in 20 metres of track, going in every direction. this is because i was determined to make the track fit the lanscape and not the other way around. I really don't think anything else but LGB could do the job.

PS I have now moved into automating my layout, inclding 2 reversing loops and i really don't think any other brand of "G" scale could hope to do what i have done.

I agree, as many know I am building an indoor layout in a small space (12x28 tracksize). Jack knows by now that when I dog him a little, I am not bashing him or LGB. [:p]

FYI, per how the real RR's do it, intermodal can be ran either as a unit train or in a mixed train

We know but I said: how I would do it.

If you spend much time track side, you will see that most main line intermodal traffic is now in a unit train, ie roadrailers, deepwells, flats, doubblestacks, single stacks, etc.

Jeff I live really close to 2 N/S main lines and I see alot of what I call semi unit trains
Most have alot of those center flow hoppers mabe 85% and a few tank
cars ,a few gons, and may be a box car or two. That's kind of what i was shooting for.
I have a lot of N/S diesels Mth - 8s I use.

Jeff My Mth being 1/32 is not a issue for me If I were to mix 1/29 and 1/32
engines mabe!!!!!!! there are certain tricks that you can do to Kind of hide the dif.
and then there are some rolling stock that look acceptable . I personally don't let concern me tho I have pulled as many as 57 1/29 cars with Just 2 -8s and could
stay with dash -9 (Aristo) pulling less cars, side by side loops.
Some people let the size dif bother them tho
To each His own Don't take life too serious I have other things to worry about than the dif. in my trains

I have had my eye on MTH for a long while. I had an O scale layout for a few years. For $350 to $400 you can get a 1:32 scale diesel with DCC and sound and quality compairs to LGB, and will run on R1 curves. And a dummy $150 or so. That is the reason I asked. [^]

Zach, Sorry I miss read you I thought you were saying they should ONLY be ran as unit trains, and I realize that they mostly run as unit, but I do see a few in the mixed trains.
