beginners / inspirational video for GR?
Posted by devils on Wednesday, March 22, 2006 9:43 AM
Thought for Rene
With all the layouts featured by the likes of Marty C. , Jack Verducci and the current issue, have the team thought of producing a video for beginners and including some features on these ultimate lines as well? A cover Dvd or CD rom or a cheap buy with a voucher from the Magazine?
MR has the dream plan build DVD, Maybe something similar to this with a bit about a simple starter scheme, clubs, trainshows etc. and then some short features on big layouts.
LGB do a world of LGB video, maybe the big guys at LGB, Bachmann, Aristo and USA could be persuaded to help with sponsoring it.
We've shown a video of a couple of local layouts at an indoor show and got a good response and are thinking of making a dvd of our own to show with our indoor setup.
I'd be interested to hear what the people starting out think would be helpful and if the Magazine would consider it viable.
I know it's not that easy or cheap but there's just something about seeing these big layouts run that keeps the dream alive!

Hi devils,
I've forwarded your message to GR's publisher, Terry Thompson. From what I understand, there haven't been any thoughts for a DVD like this. What you're suggesting sounds strangely similar to a PBS program Kalmbach already helps to underwrite called Tracks Ahead. This is a great show that features segments of great layouts, garden railways, ride-on trains, museums, and prototype trains. (Not sure if you can get it from where you are, check www.pbs.org if you're interested).

FWIW, a number of the past conventions have made DVDs available of the railroads on tour. I would guess you could still get copies of them (if anyone has contact into, jump in here).

I suppose I haven't really answered your question, but I wanted to let you know that I have forwarded it on, and we certainly do appreciate new ideas and thoughts.

Thanks Rene
I've got one series of tracks ahead that's available in the UK, just thought I'd post the idea as there are so many good layouts in the magazine and a dvd or cd rom might complement the mags still pictures.
The British Garden rail mag has done a couple of separate videos and dvds and there is a more limited market over here so I thought I'd see if it was viable.
Keep up the good work I've just ordered another 12 copies thru SPV over here
