Hey Ya'll


I know this has nothing to do with Gadren Railroading, but I am looking for the DVD "The Titfeild Thunderbolt", a 1953 Ealing British Comedy about trains.

Here ae two synopsis' I found on the internet.

"The residents of a small English village are about to lose their ancient railroad. They decide to rescue it by running it themselves, in competition with the local bus company."

"When British Railways announce the closure of the Titfield to Mallingford branch line a group of local residents make a bid to run it themselves, backed by a monied member of the community who is attracted by the complete lack of licensing hours on trains. Unfortunately the local bus company starts to use methods that can hardly be seen as fair competition, to the extent that the whole project is threatened."


If anybody knows where I can find one, give a shout out, I'm looking for it.

Thanks Matthew, have just purchased this title on e-bay as you suggeted, I hope Steel Rails does also, but here in Australia most DVD players are Multi band, and will play Region 2 also.

This was the period of classic British comedies starirng Alec Guiness, Peter Sellers and a whole crew of nutty actors . They made another classic about antique cars - "Genevive" shown recently on Turner Clasic movies.

PS ---DO NOT buy a DVD from the UK!

Its a different regional operating system, you need to make sure your buying a "region 1" or "no region" DVD. UK DVDs are like region 2 or 5 and will not work on US DVD players.

I have this movie on VHS and its a hoot! A must have if you like trains! Some very good train scenes, its a light comedy by British standards but look for two scenes in particular, one a "head butting" of sorts between a locomotive and a steam tractor (listen for the bell tone descretly added on each impact), and perhaps the best scene in the movie when two characters decide to "borrow" a locomotive, and run it off the turntable, and onto the towns streets!!!!! One of the best scenes in any movie![:D]

As an aside to this topic for those that have the cash
Aster make the TitfieldThunderbolt in live steam doing the rolling stock could be a bit of a challange I am pretty sure the GWR low loader is made in the matching scale not sure about the toad brake van but given its GWR probably is.
The4wh coach body would have to be scratch built would be an interesting
interior detailing job.
I personaly like the fragile package oops!

Mind you if I had known about it when I got my first set and lots of extras
the start would have been that and a circle of R2 track.

I have seen that movie and really liked it if it ever comes on TV or Austar in Queensland i will watch it for sure, but i don't know about recording it.
