LGB MTS Software PROBLEM
Posted by cubythewater on Saturday, February 4, 2006 11:04 PM
Ok, so I have fully embraced the LGB MTS system, but have run into a fairly serious problem with the computer software. My system is completely unable to accurately display any right hand switch.

The universal remote correctly controls all of my RH switches, but the computer interface does not. I have checked the programming on the switch decoders, double checked my definitions of the switches in the software, but NO LUCK.

Anybody working with MTS use the computer interface and seen (or not?) this issue?

Eureka!

Ok, so I figured out the problem, there is one more checkbox. That would be the "reverse setting direction" box.

So, if you find that your switches work properly from the MTS universal remote, but work backwards in your MTS software, you need to check this box.

I guess I find it very frustrating that the software knows that the switch is right-handed, yet requires additional user input to controll it correctly. I figured LGB would, since all development is done in-house or at Massoth, have solved this issue in the software without additional user input. I mean, the switch is straight out of the LGB box, yet the software is confused?

Oh well, works now.

BTW, the newest version of LGB MTS software is version 5.00.0006, and availabe at the LGBOA website under "downloads".

Cuby,

When you "fully embrace" the MTS system then you get the "full benefit" of technical information and design which may drive you a bit wacky at times.

Get yourself a cup o' coffee, relax and read the instructions three times.[;)][}:)][:D][:D]
LGB used to have "hidden tips" - I don't know if they still do - and they were more or less the add-ons which the "compiler of manuals" forgot in the first instance and/or the translator didn't fully grasp and thus omitted. [:)][:)]

I did read the instructions..... cant quite count the number of times.... but the Gerglish is always difficult to read.

I think I should pour a little bourbon into the coffe next time.

Hi Dave,

I was quite sure you read the instructions[;)][;)] the coffee and the "relax" was more for the "hmmmmmmm what is that supposed to mean".

BTW once upon a time, when I still looked at the MTS manuals, I regularly would refer to the German manual. But that was no guarantee either, some of it was just written in such a convoluted way that "which language" wasn't really the problem.[;)][:)]

HJ,
I would imagine that many of the words in computer are not readily translateable into German, or any other old language! kinda like on ships, it's radar in any language from Polish, to German, to Chinese, to Japanese, or French, or Espanol! Never in 39 years heard it called anything but radar!

That would mean that using the German manual could cause a double translation problem. American to German, then to English (which more Germans use than American)!

Bob,

Possible, but not likely.[;)][:)]

In order to test if the manuals are "good", one takes a bunch of different people and lets them at it.
When the chorus is: " I just don't *&^%*%$ get it!!" one knows that it's time for revisions. More so when one, like LGB with their MTS system tries to tell the users "It's really plug and play".

Which reminds me, you all know the story of Bill Gates getting to the Pearly Gates??[;)][:)][;)]

With delight,[}:)][;)][}:)]

When Bill Gates gets to the Pearly Gates he's asked by St. Peter if he has a preference - Heaven or Hell.
Gates asks if he could have a look at both first.
St.Peter agrees and invites him into Heaven.

Well, Heaven is just like the Great Plains on a rainy and dreary Fall day with a lot of souls standing around in their white gowns, hymn books open and busily singing.
Hmmmmmmmmmm, says Gates, I thought it would be a little more lively.
St.Peter shrugs and sends him down to check out H*e*l*l.

Well, wouldn't you know it. Hell was really jumping, great party going at the beach and everyone frolicking around and having one H*e*l*l of a Time. It took old Bill a moment or two to take it all in, then he's back on the way to the Pearly Gates.

Soooooooo???, St.Peter ask, how did you like it?
Gates exclaims: WOW, that's just super down there. I think that's where I belong.

St.Peter pulls the trapdoor, Bill Gates is on the way. A moment later St. Peter hears a great wailing: Oh, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! What happened??!!?? This isn't at all what I looked at!!!

The answer from the Pearly Gates: Sorry about that Bill, you must have been looking at the Evaluation Copy!
