If the track is dead, or shorted no current can possibly go from the battery back into the rails. <br /> <br />An on-board charger system would only charge the batteries when and only when the track voltage is high enough. During all other times there would be no effect to the track system, and no current being drawn from the track for the locomotive. <br /> <br />Mark in Utah
