Is wiring a reverse loop very difficult?
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, January 15, 2006 9:28 PM
I was wondering what my options would be,to have 2 loops on each side of the house instead of going all the way back(track isnt cheap).

Any ways the garden railways book I have says it involves special wiring considerations which is understandable since the polarity changes.

I'm pretty clueless here and I am still trying to come up with a track plan I like.'

Thanks for any help.

If you have any experience with HO trains, the idea is the same. The only consideration is that the reversing loop control should be in a weather protected panel or inside. You have an unlimited number of creative ideas to do this, I reccomend keeping the controller inside and using remote control, or setting it up to work automaticaly.

Here is a great link on the nitty gritty of doing it.

I also found a link to this little gizmo, I haven't used it, but I think it has a lot of potential.

How do you want these loops to work???

Automatic or manual control?

Train always enters and exits the same way?

Train alternates entering and exiting the loop.

Track powered vs battery power, vs MTS/DCC? Live steam?

There are solutions for all of these.

Knicks,
Go to www.lgb.com and click on DOWNLOADS at the bottom center of the main page.
Look under "Product and Technical information" for #00559 "Explore the World of LGB"
There is info on reverse loops starting on page 122.
Hope this helps!
Jack
