Sheriff Apprehends Vandals of Miniature Railroad

Rosebud Falls, CO. 28 Oct. 1905
On the Grapevine today

The Rosebud Falls Sheriff of today announced that his deputies had apprehended the vandals that had attacked Mr. Flatbottom's miniature railroad. Sheriff Eyegotta Star said that conclusive biological evidence had been recovered from the crime scene. The biological evidence has been identified as hair samples that had been trapped on the tracks and cars that were damaged during the attack. These hairs had been determined to be canine tail hairs. Sources close to the sheriff's office also disclose that these hairs were white and exceptionally long. Sheriff's Deputy Eyegotta Star II confirmed that he and his father had apprehended both Sissy Papillion and her younger brother, Danny.

During arraignment proceedings, the district attorney stated that he would seek two hours of detention hall for a week, after doggy obedience school. Obedience instructor Ms. Bonbon stated that she would work harder to teach the young pups to stay out of other people's backyards. After pleading no contest to the charges Sissy said the she and her brother were "just chasing the cat through the yard when the tracks became entangled in our tails and we got scared and ran away faster."

After accepting the pleas Judge J.P. Justas called both counsels to the bench where the three opened sealed documents and discussed the unknown details without comment. Judge Justas then sentenced the two youngsters to two hours of public service with the local 4H club, teaching obedience and showmanship to other dogs in the community. Unidentified sources within the court clerk's office confirmed that the confidential documents opened, but not made public in the court were from Mrs. Flatbottom pleading for leniency for the two youngsters.

Rosebud Falls Division of the D&RGW in Hostile Takeover

Denver CO. 29, Oct. 1905
On the Grapevine today

Denver and Rio Grande Western Corporate Offices in Denver Colorado today confirmed that the Rosebud Falls Division of the D&RGW, a subsidiary of the D&RGW has been named as the subject of a hostile takeover by a consortium of businessmen from the Rosebud Falls and Rosebud Flats area. D&RGW officials would not discuss the specific issues due to possible pending court actions.

President Douglas Flatbottom of the Rosebud Division confirmed that a consortium of local businessmen from the area led by Mayor Finias T. Bluster and himself have acquired in excess of seventy-five percent of the public stock of the D&RGW Rosebud Division. Flatbottom confirmed that their intent was to create a new rail company called Rosebud Falls Railways. This new company would take over the assets and operations schedules of both the current D&RGW division and the Rosebud Falls Tramway and Trolley Systems. This new consolidated company would control all aspects of public transit within the valley. Mayor Bluster said that the first order of business of the new company would be the construction of new freight yards and warehousing complex.

Mayor Bluster identified a hilly area to the south of town currently occupied by wilderness vegetation is to be used for the railroad expansion. After an extensive search of public documents and property deeds at the county court house it has been determined that Mr. Sowed Apop, owner of the local drug store and soda shop in Rosebud Falls, currently owns the property in question. Mr. Apop and Mr. Mort Uary have been identified as major shareholders in the takeover attempt.

Sources within the office of the President of D&RGW in Denver said that the company had no intent to oppose the takeover action. This source continued to explain that officials in the Denver office had been proposing a reduction of service in the Rosebud Falls area due to a shortage of freight revenue. Passenger service has been the prime revenue source generated by the division. According to industry insiders passenger service may pay most of the bills for a railroad but freight revenue is what makes the company profitable.

Mr. C. Moore, general manager of the Rosebud Falls Tramway, called the takeover a godsend for passenger service. He explained that D&RGW scheduling had always caused problems for Tramway customers who had to wait 45 minutes to an hour and a half to make their connecting trains. Mr. Moore assured that all tram and train service would be coordinated to minimize transferring customer waiting times. Mr. Moore said "during high volume transit hours Trains, Trams, and Trolleys will be in the station at the same time, thus improving total customer service."

Cool, I see you are breaking ties with the mother railroad. Soon Rosebud Falls will own its own railroad publically much like the N&MRR.

I look forward to adding your railroads' hearldry to my lexicon. Remember, even if that division gains independence, that doesn't mean that you cannot grant trackage rights to D&RGW.

Such an arrangement would mean that you could still see D&RGW rollimg stock and equipment on said division.

This will make an excellent "Grapevine News Service" article for the times.
