Digin' ditches, pullin' switches, dodgin' hitches- working on the RR!

I haven’t been very active on the forum lately, the weather is finally getting nice, so I have been doing something very odd, working on the RR! Here are a few shots of my Heartland loco and a few Heartland tank cars. The cars are sporting fresh paint and I still have to letter and weather. This is a great running little train- awesome for small industry and short line work.

Coming around the back 40

coming around the front 40

This is a nice shot of the trading post with the pond on the left. I guess this is the “west bend”

A higher angle shot of the trading post, pond and waterfall in the background

The passenger platform will be to the left on the gravel between the two tracks, the concrete pad is for the tank farm (yet to be built). This will be the industrial section.

I like this view, a reverse angle of the last shot, the gazebo is the one I used the copper roofing material on in the “unlikely treasures” forum. The building blocks on the right are for an elevated trolley oval and a small downtown section.

Oh yeah, and the house project also. VIVA MEXICO!

You must have an extremely slow Internet connection. I waited nearly five minutes and the first picture hadn't finished loading.

He WISHES!
No Ben, he had to add on for the girls! Remember he got married with instant family!

Trains now come after hairdos, jewelry, fancy frocks, & tuition! All those girls in the old Batchelor pad.

I think Motorcycles and Street Rods now fall somewhere well down the list!

YOU wish, Capt Bob! I still have "man-land" in the back- i.e. the garage. It provides a convinient escape hatch from all the strawberry shortcake and Polly Pocket action in the front part of the house. It's a place I can go to work on my trains and other manly things. If you look at the last photo very carefuly, you just might see the tail end of a granny green '71 Plymouth Valiant and if you have enough resolution on your monitor, you may just catch a glimps of the roll cage located therein. It's not just for looks, the quite powerful engine on the front side shredded the stock rear end (oh yeah, that was every bit as fun as running my new train!).

In any case, the girls won't be living here forever, and the rooms CAN be converted into a nice train room at a later date.[;)]

I'm just glad the weather is nice enough now to get some things done both on the RR and around the house. I must have run trains for 5 hours today- more than in the last 6 weeks put together. Now all I need is some time.................................

TJ, Welcome to my world. I get quite Irate [:(!]when "MAN's LAND" is violated here seeing how I have very little say on the interior of the house issues. Man's land here consist of my front garage or cabinet shop 25 x30 and the rear garage Car shop 30 x40' plus my office/model building /computer room. My square footage exceeds all of theirs[:p][:D]

Hi tangerine jack
That there copper roofed building has reminded me of a ticket office
that served the local tram lines once unfortunatly now gone like the trams
Might be worth getting another one and giving it 4 windows.
And a door oposite the opening for the ticket counter
and using it for the trolley line
regards John

TJ,
I hear you! When GM started giving away cars this spring I got DI a new Envoy, boy, did that start the S--t rolling! I had to spend another 30 grand to have a pole barn built for my tractors so she could push me out of my garage and put her car in. When clearing sod for the pole barn, the 18 year old little tractor w/bucket loader curled up it's toes and died; thus requiring replacement, another 12 G's! Still gotta spend another grand on electrical work, a grand on more concrete to tie it all together, and a couple of grand on the inside to finish off.

That dern new set of wheels cost me over 75 Grand! Worse than that, no time to get more track down and move the waterfall! #@&^%$#@#$#@!!!!!!!

Trouble is, with all that ***in & complainin, she's worth every penny of it! I'm greedy, the better I make things for her, the better she makes them for me.[:D][:D][:D][censored][swg][swg]

Ok fellas (and gals!) I got bored this evening and decided to jump ahead a little on my winter weathering projects. The subject this evening was a B'mann box car, standard set issue type. The first thing to be done was installation of Kadee couplers, no debate please, I like 'em so I use 'em! That took all of 10 minutes to do, very easy. Then I painted the trucks "grimy black" to tone them down and get a good base for the muck to come.

OK, can we say really boring.... even toy like. This is the raw car.

After a splash of weathering, a little black wash and some rust highlights. Now she looks like a true workhorse-much more convincing!

Not to shabby, it even looks good in a close-up!

I also did my USAT 44 tonner and a caboose, but I ran out of "free" time (in other words I got caught by the wife). I'll post a shot of those a little later.

T-J

A stolen moment can be well worth a days worth of "honey-do's". Looking Good, anxiously awaiting further pic's.

Not been able to anything on my RR. SWMBO is watching me like a hawk, not letting me out to the pond/GRR untill the Doc says my shoulder is sufficiently healed. It's been almost 2 months now, and the ONLY railroading I get is what I see posted here. Only problem: the more I read, the longer my "wi***o-do" list grows.

Another "stolen moment" got this USAT 44 tonner done. I wanted it to look hard working, but well kept. It has an LGB coupler on one end and a Kadee on the other, when I finish converting the rolling stock I'll swap the LGB out.

Looks good in my opinion!

I've been so busy this last week working on my house (you'll love what they found under the siding, Matt!) that I only managed one small project. I guess this is a sort of "hidden treasure" type of thing. I made the parking lot from an asphalt shingle from my old roof (I've plenty more if anybody wants one!) anchored to a square of pressure treated scrap wood. The bikes are Wal-Mart specials I've picked up over the years. They are marked "1/16" scale on the box, but appear much smaller than that to me. I forget who makes the figures, they were on clearance sale. The club house is a bird feeder that I will repaint soon to be a little more "macho".

"Oil Rig" waits patiently on his 1943 WLH Harley while his 'ol Lady "Sweet Sue" calls to thier friends from her 1993 Yamaha Virago to hurry up before they miss the charity run. Unknown to the pair, "G-baby" and "Wolf" are on the phone trying to find a coil for the 1948 Chief that won't start this morning.
