New 32mm line under construction
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 3:20 PM
I am starting to build a 32mm narrow gauge railroad, I want the line to be closer to eye level than my past layouts, not sure how I want to do this yet, I want live plants ect. I was thinking about build basicly a big planter box, wide enough for my mamod 32mm track and around maybe 6" deep, all made of treated wood, 2x4 or 2x6 bottom to the box, the gaps between the boards to allow the excess water to drain out, I would use a fabric weed barrier in the bottom to keep the dirt in. Motive power will be a Roundhouse Lady Anne in blue, live steam, and some slate wagons. It will be a slate and passenger hauling line. I want the eye level so as to keep costs down by using manual control locomotives instead of radio control, and I can see it better and keep the dogs out of it. Any thoughts on my idea for a BIG planter box to serve as a layout base? Thanks Mike

Take a look at "Arthur Raznick's portable layout" at

there are a couple of other elevated trains there. Look at what they did and put a "flower box" under the tracks.

Hi bman36
No more dificult than our lines[:D]
just different.

One small problem you may not be aware of Lady Anne will clean up the the point lever on mammod points derailing in the process you will need to extend the two ties at the operating lever some how and move the lever away from the track or better still get Peco brand sm32 track and points.
Check out the usefull links topic the sticky one at the top of the general descusion forum its always at the top look for the spline road bed link I am not a fan of track on a stick but you may find it usefull.
regards John
