Hello, All! This is my first attempt at a garden railroad. It seems the basic sound systems Sierra/Phoenix are kind of pricey coming from the O scale side of things. (half the cost of the locomotive??) Is that all that's available for just basic tooting and chuffing noise? I would appreciate any info. Thanks. Jon

i do not think that there are any sound boards that are going to give you a regular chuff. I as well am into O gauge, and i started into garden railroading about 3 years ago. If there is there could be one from Aristo Craft Trains.
Hope it helps.

Jon,
Have a look at Garden Railway Specialists in Princes Risborough, www.grsuk.com I bought basic sound systems from them years ago - I suppose they where state of the art then - but they may well stock affordable ones. Those Phoenix ones are good but do they cost!!
Cheers,
Kim

Since I run everything from battery power and the AirWire900 Wireless DCC System, I use SoundTraxx DSX Sound-Only decoders that are made for HO scale, and have found them to be just fine for G.
Other than the fact that the SoundTraxx Sierra and Phoenix systems are
NOT
DCC decoders, the main thing you're paying extra for when you choose them is a more powerful amplifier and perhaps a wider variety of background sounds; so if you are running under DCC, try a DSX.

Listen mate what do you mean by south, if you live north of the equator you don't even understand south.
The sound business is and expensive business for what you get whichever way you go, get it cheap and it isn't worth having i have found!
