Lacking Motivation
Posted by Marty Cozad on Sunday, July 17, 2005 8:19 AM
OK, here I go.
Its mid summer and how many folks are still not getting much done on their GRRs?
After my knee surgery I was bummed for a long time.
Plus behind at work and work on the new shop. Trains had to wait.
So how do you get ,,,going???
I envite a couple of friends over ( train buffs or not) grill out and run trains.
We have 3 open houses coming up and the RR is "never" totally ready. So I needed help, the kind that reminds me why I'm in the hobby, to play and share the fun with friends.
Some folks think that some of us "nuts " have it all together, NOT true.
We need help to, I do.
Oh yes its tooo hot out, theres not enough time , etc.
Heres my challenge, envite two couples or friends over to grill out and share what you have done so far with the trains. Take some photos and share it on here.
Don't make it a big deal or alot of work.
Just enjoy.
Even my wife said , Now that was nice , relaxing and good company.
Heres my buds

Carl, Me, Don and Sean
now don't we look like some sweating, dirty kids who look like we've been out playing?
Its time to eat and I'm now back on track getting ready for "open houses".

Is it REAL? or Just 1:29 scale?

Long live Outdoor Model Railroading.

I'm getting lots done! Here are two schools of motivational thought, Marty:

1. GET OFF YOUR LAZY BUTT YOU SLACKER! YOU THINK THIS IS PLAY TIME? I'M TALKING TO YOU, YEAH YOU! WADDYA THINK WE'RE DOING HERE, PLAYING "LET'S PRETEND"???? NO SIR! WE'VE GOT WORK TO DO, THAT'S RIGHT YOU WORTHLESS BUM, YOU HEARD ME RIGHT, W-O-R-K, SOMETHING YOU'RE GONNA LEARN THE MEANING OF REAL QUICK- I DON'T WANNA HEAR ANY "OH IT'S TOO HOT I'M GOING TO MELT" CRAP!!! SUCK IT UP!

2. You can do it, Marty, yeah! Let's get those trains running big guy! We can all chip in and help you clean out those weeds and poli***hose rails, yes sir! Boy oh boy, this is gonna be great, just us "guys" and a little BBQ, wow!

Hope this helps. I still have problems with option 2, but I'm learning[8D]

Marty, I feel your pain, sort of. Im keeping a much smaller garden layout, the Garden aspect did'nt pan out this season..... The only way that I am keeping up with it is multi tasking the job, raise steam, pull weeds, run train, perform track mx on the run so to speak..... I've re-entered the planning stage, if things go well a much larger steamer is on it's way, laying more track is a possibility...... The knees, oh brother, do I feel the knees..... time to cut a walking stick soon. The only thing that cheers me at this point is that it's not the dead of winter and that I don't have to tuck the Ruby under my coat to keep warm! Hang in there Marty, hope the knees improve. [8D]

With the possible implosion of my garage an immenant possiblilty, I've been very unmotivated to do any more work to my layout, so it has been languishing, that and that we're in the middle of a lousy heat wave here, 95 and HIGH humidity make for a lousy day in the garage. I dont want to get alot of stuff done only to have to dismantle the indoor layout to move it. [:(]

On the plus side though I have found myself Highly motivated in the workshop! I've gotten 4 projects done in as many weeks and am rapidly clearing off alot of unfinished business in there![8D]

The shop is inside the house and consists of half of a back closet I wrestled out of my wifes control, she's still eyeing it, although it too will go Boom! if we add onto the house.[;)]

Thats a 6 -1/2 foot square space and only about 2/3's is usefull, thier are coats hanging right behind that chair[:0]

So I dont wanna hear anybody whine about only having 1/2 their basement for a workshop...try working on an Annie in here![}:)]

Yeah, I know the feeling, Vic. I have to drag myself to my garage to the workshop:

Only to have to share the space with this:

I definately lack motivation, I myself find it hard to justify in my own mind that I can take time for myself. I've been taking a couple hours on Sunday evenings to work on my Mogul. Slow progress but relaxing and enjoyable.[:)]

I've had surgery on both of my hands this year. the right hand along with the right elbow first in March, then the left hand in July. I have gotten so far behind that I don't know if I will ever catch up. Plus, I have remodelling going on inside my house. Doesn't leave much time to go outside and get switches and accessory controllers wired in. But given a few minutes here and a few minutes there, it will all get done. Just going to take longer than I wanted to.

Hey Jack,
Wow...do we have the same garage??? My train stuff shares space with a 327, a 440, a 727 trans., and misc. other stuff. No shortage of motivation here....just need to act on it! [:D] Later eh...Brian.
