D&RGW Begins Service to Rose Bud Falls

Rose Bud Falls (July 12)

The Denver and Rio Grande Western RR inaugurated service to the city of Rosebud Falls today. Prior to arrival of the first passenger train D&RGW President Douglas Faltbottom inspected the rails in a handcar.


At 12:45 p.m. D&RGW #1218 pulled into the community of Rosebud Falls just in front of the daily tram service to Falls in Rosebud hills where hydroelectric engineers state that water should be only two weeks away, with the first scheduled fish plant occurring the first weekend of August.




Just prior to the departure of the #1218 road maintenance crews were seen busily removing giant cherry tomatoes that had fallen and were blocking the tracks out of town.



Later that same day D&RGW survey crews were seen in the area of Rosebud Flats.



Speculation has run rampant that D&RGW is planning an expansion out through Rose Bed Flats and on to Green Apple Orchards. When pressed buy this reporter President Flatbottom would only state that the D&RGW is considering expanding service to both Green Apple Orchards and ultimately to Strawberry Hills, but that no permits had yet been submitted to the W. I. F. & E. (the local real estate governing board.)

I usually make up a story about the people I'm making. I love the "Tonail Ridge" story, but I'm far too ADD to write something like that for mine.

Giant Tomato Tree Kills Four.

Rosebud Falls 5 Sept 1905

Douglas Flatbottom, President D&RGW, Rosebud Falls Branch, confirmed that a giant, 120 foot tall tomato tree fell to earth today while Maintenance Of Way crews were making final repairs to track that had been damaged in the recent floods. Confirmed deaths include Jack T. Hammar, Wheeler DaBarrow, and Foreman Finias Underlord, all of whom expired at the scene. Raga Muffin, local hobo of note, expired later at Rosebud Falls General Hospital. Land Use Commissioner Ms. Bonbon denied initial requests for removal of the offending tree. Only after all harvestable produce had been removed from the tree was a removal permit granted. Two 0-5-0 Overhead gantry cranes were used to remove the fallen vegetation. Minor repairs of track in the area were quickly completed and local rail service resumed after a half hour delay.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Rosebud Falls Mortuary. Mr. Hammar and Mr. DaBarrow have no known relatives in the Rosebud Falls area. Mr. Underlord is survived by his wife Lissa and four teenage sons. Mr. Muffin's relatives were last seen in the encampment six miles south of the falls. Sheriff Eyegota Star states that his deputies are engaged in searching out Mr. Muffin's relatives. Both deputies were seen by this reporter to be actively engaged with the "support staff" of Ms. Legga Bloomer, Proprietess of "The Red Garter Saloon and Hotel." President Flatbottom has informed the Widow Underlord that she will be allowed to remain in the Foreman's Shanty until such time as a new Foreman is announced, most likely around the first of next month.
