Help with Aristo Train Engineer Onboard

I am in way over my head as far as electronics / wiring goes
I have purchased the Aristo Craft Train Engineer and I need help on how to install it in my USA Trains NW2 The instructions say to isolate the motors and connect the Right side motor wire to the Gray wire on the provided wiring harness and the left side motor wire to the orange wire. Looking at the rear of the front trucks at the “power block?” there is a red wire and a black wire on the left side and a red wire and a black wire on the right side. Are the black wires common or are both power wires? Do I need to cut both to isolate the motor or just one color? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Ted
