All Metal Track
Posted by John Busby on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 5:29 AM
Hi all
Have checked usefull links to no avail.
Does any one know of a manufacturer that produces track that looks like it has steel sleepers in 45mm gauge.
Or a track that is of all metal construction in 45mm gauge.

I dont think all-metal Gauge 1 track has been made since WW2. It looked like O gauge 3 rail. Even so, outdoors, wouldn't it rust to nothing pronto?

   Have fun with your trains

Seems to me that unless you're planning on running battery power, all metal track and ties is a recipe for shorts. I's be really wary of hooking up a power supply without ohming out the track first.

John mate why do you want to do this, it sounds UnAustralian to me. If you had metal sleepers wouldn't you have a short circuit?

hi iandor
What do you think the Mad Ninety runs on[:D]
markperr almost got it live steam doesn't need electrickery
Its for a steam and battery only dirt ballasted branch line that is the property of the Eastern Goldfields Timber and Fire Wood Company an runs to the log landings and mill
So steel sleeperd track so the termites don't eat them and the profit don't go in sleepers( ties)
Well thats the story line
Looks like a get some brass chanel track gauges and silver solder job

In the real world of 1:1 scale, Queensland Rail is heavily into Steel (and Concrete) Sleepers (ties), wooden Sleepers are on the way out, Steel or Concrete last indefinately.

Hi DannyS
most of the line from Perth to Kalgoorlie is now concrete sleepers the passing loops in my neck of the woods are still timber but an awfall lot of steel has moved in
on passing loops and branch lines as well.
maybe if we agitate enough one of the manufacturers will produce mouldings for concrete ands steel sleepers.
regards John
