Unemployment and garden railroads

It's only been a week today but not having a job has made my garden railroad prosperous. I'm a painter and have been busy all winter right up till last week. Now, no phone calls, no one biting on proposals I've already sent out, can't figure it out. But the weather has changed for the good and perhaps people aren't thinking of painting right now.

Anyway, my garden railway which went into disrepair last year, (never ran trains and pulled up the tracks), is now up and running. Bought a new loco off of e-bay and am looking forward to running something new.

So to all of you who have run down, overgrown railroads take some time off work before summer sets in. Even though my pocket book is hurtin my mental health is improving! (and my yard and garden look great).

Good idea! I think I'll retire in August and clean up my yard. I should have a great RR by the end of the year with all that free time on my hands. I always said that work was a waste of time, now you have proven it for me! Thanks!

Nice one Paul, that's what I told my wife. Let me have another railway or the garden will be crap! I got the railway.

Isn't it ironic--you have a job and some $$, but no time to work on the RR. Then, you have no job and plenty of time to work on the RR--but no $$. I agree that it definately helps with your mental health! Keep your chin up and those trains runnin'!

Paul, interior or exterior painter?
around here a couple of guys only do insides.
We stopped painting because the roofing and remodeling keeps us busy.
painting is a "fall back" trade for farmers around here when they need money.

Well done mate, I hope you are out of work by choice and not by necessity, if so i hope you get something soon, as bills and mortgages have got to be paid.

i am retired and my layout is right up to scratch and it is expanding steadily as it should; with new ideas buzzing arouind in my skull and I hope you are n the same position.

Paul now that you've got the layout down, if you need more cars, building etc. you can always try scratchbuilding them ...saves alot of $$ and is fun too.
