Different scales?

Hi all...

I've been around large scale trains since my first LGB starter set when I was 12. Now, 17yrs later, I'm planning on putting an indoor setup in my soon to be done new home. I prefer the look of the modern diesel loco's so I've been looking at alot of Aristocraft and USA products. Keep in mind that all I've had is LGB up until now.

1. Is aristocraft track, euro and usa style, the same size (or scale) as LGB? Or will Aristocraft Diesels be able to run on my LGB track?

2. I notice there are different scales listed (ie. 1:29, 1:20, etc.) as G scale. do they all run on the same size track?

I'm sure these questions have been asked somewhere before but I can't seem to find the answer's I needed before spending some $$$ on something I couldn't use.

The easy answer to your questions would be yes and yes. They all are running on 45mm track.

Check out the April issue of Garden Railways. The "Garden Railways Basics" column covers the various scales and gauges that are common under the generic "Garden Railways" or synonomous "G-scale" or "Large Scale" banner. There's also a chart elsewhere on this website--the exact address I'm not certain--that is similar in scope.

In a nutshel, the 1:20.3 models are of narrow gauge prototypes, and tracks scale to 3' wide. The 1:29 models represent standard gauge prototypes, and the tracks scale to 4' 3" (shy of the correct 4' 8.5", but it is what it is...)

The Aristo, USA Trains, and LGB track all connect to each other, and all "large scale" models will run on these tracks without difficulty. (Some models may not take the sharper curves.)
