Covering Electrical Outlet Post
Posted by ericboone on Saturday, April 9, 2005 10:41 PM
Just today I laid my sub roadbed. I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of my rail bender so I can lay track.[:D] I used 3/4 minus as that was all I could find. I'll have to sift out the larger stones for the top layer of ballast.[V]

One thing I still need to do is run electric out to the layout for both the track and the waterfall pump. The ground has finally thawed out and the weather is beautiful. The waterfall pump needs 120 volt and thus I need to get 120V out to the layout. Electric code requires any outdoor outlets to be at least 18 inches above ground. Thus I was thinking that this post would double as a control stand.

However, I am not fond of having a large ugly post in my garden and want to cover it. Several companies sell fake boulders. In order to blend the fake boulder in, I will want to partially bury it, but then I can't easily pull off the boulder to access the outlet or conroller. Does anyone know of a fake boulder with an access door?

Don't know of anything like that except perhaps one of those plastic or fiberglass fake boulders that are used to cover water faucets to keep them from freezing in the Wintertime. Have you considered the possibility of a building instead of a boulder?

cacole,

Not a bad idea. My wife really wants a barn on the layout and that building may be big enough. I'll definitely think about that.

Thanks,
Eric

Eric
I made a building to look like a old feed mill, to put my outlet in and it was high enough .

Two good ideas above, how about a factory building/warehouse building.

I was searching for fake boulders on the web and came across this site that has one with a door.
