I have been very interested in G scale railroading for as many as 30 years. I set up a pike every Christmas but do almost nothing with garden railroading apart from that. I am a retired Naval Warrant Officer (Electronic field) and retired University professor (Electrical engineering and management). Moved to FL three years ago and set up a Christmas pike at one end of the pool each year. I am looking forward to receiving some tips as the time goes by.
Welcome to the group, not the most active garden railway forum on the net unfortunatly. Mylargescale and Gscalecentral(mostly UK but a good read none the less) are much more active. Me and a couple others here post from time to time, I run live steam and electric ones that I converted to onboard battery power on a large raised outdoor loop in my back yard. I can highly recommend looking at battery RC control from the very beginning, it does away with any need for rail clamps at the joints, cleaning track beyond removing leaves and sticks. Just set the engines on and go. Crest Revolution, Airwire are two well known and supported RC systems for onboard battery power. Or go live steam with an engine from Roundhouse Engineering or Accucraft. Live steam is what got me into garden railroading. Mike

It'll step you through my relatively recent road from concept to railroad. It also contains some great advice from the inestimable and, unfortunately, late Tom Trigg.
Forum member "Chochowilly" is from your next of the woods, and there is an active garden RR community in Florida. You may also want to scope out Large Scale Central, which is pretty active and has a number of Floridians.

Wahiawa...terminus of the old OR&L pineapple branch and still just as dusty today! Efforts to bring the town into the 21st century have thus far not succeeded...
Our site was right in the middle of the Dole fields at Helemano. I think it is Army housing now.
