Has anyone rewired Bachmann trolleys for overhead wire operation and/or installed command control decoders in them?

No but it should be fairly straightforward once you've isolated the motor teminal wires. All my HO trams were converted to overhead pickup.Makes for very smooth running due to 2 return rails. Also get some great sparks off the overhead, very prototypicle.

Decoder installation should be a snap. I just pulled mine apart to lube the guts. The entire drive assembly comes out in one piece, just remove two screws. The wires to the brushes and the motor are right there on top, out in the open.
The drive unit would also be great for scratch and bash. Everything you need is in the one unit. I've been doing some measuring and it looks like the top of the unit is the same hieght as the top of the deck of an On30 flat car, and the deck of the Bachmann On30 passenger cars.
It sure looks strange running around the layout all by itself. lol
