Has anyone adjusted the pots on the circuit boards in the tender to see if you can adjust the whistle sound to more real rather than toy like

I used to deal with these all the time. Then I just started ripping them out and installing Sierras when they quit.

Plus the big double board units prevented batteries and radio install in the tender.

I cannot remember what those trimpots do, but they were delay and duration if I recall. Nothing changed whistle sound...they all. sound. exactly. the. same.

I checked with Ron Gibson with Maerklin/LGB, who has been around LGB for decades, and he can't recall exactly but confirmed they won't change the sound of the whistle.

that early sound was state of the art when it came out.  But we have come so far since then.  Most of those boards are starting to fail as electrionics do not age well.  Many of the 2019's loose thier whistle or chuff effect as the boards give up from age.   I second the idea of removal and replacement with good quality Phoneix or similar sound board.  You can reuse the speaker and the sound will be light years better than the old set up.  IF the boards are still fully functional, they will bring a decent price if sold on that auction site or another forum that has a classifieds.  Some folks like the early sounds or want to keep the model "as built" and working boards are desireable.    Mike
