Bachmann "g scale" coaling tower
Posted by chocho willy on Thursday, November 10, 2016 6:21 AM
I have a bachmann g scale coaling tower that came with original battery powered set, bachmann in their wisdom put their "O" scale tower in the box and labeled it "G". I've seen a couple of attempts to make it closer to " g" but just wonder if anyone else has done anything with it?

I have had several of them. I find them quite useful to simply move them to the basement for use on my 0 pike. It was silly to include an 0 unit on a G set, but it is useful in the proper scale.

Opinion.

Do you have (or plan) a "way off in the distance" scene? Maybe a mining operation? A few years ago during the Ontario Train Show garden railroad tours, one had a mine. He had taken an O scale 0-4-0 engine and bashed it to look like a low profile engine using the shell from an HO steam engine. He had hand crafted three wooden mine cars. He used an O sclae coal tower with half the height of the legs removed as the dump station for the mine. He had a conveyor belt to move from the O tower to a G tower along side the main line siding.

I converted one several years ago now it lives on my portable layout.

I mostly just changed the stairs to ladders, and added taller railings and  the raised base. The raised rear tower was because originally this was against the wall and the raised tower covered a wall outlet and power cord. But otherwise it's mostly stock.

   Have fun with your trains

Sort of like George Washington's axe.

Handle has been changed three times, head twice, but it's still George Washington's Axe.
