Smoke Fluid

Is there a difference between LGB and USA Trains smoke fluid? Can the USA Trains fluid be used in a LGB locomotive without causing any damage? Thanks.

The topic of smoke fluid seems to open a can of worms every time it comes up.  Various manufacturers claim that using anything other than their brand of fluid can damage a smoke generator, but several users contadicted that warning.

During a lengthy discussion a few years ago, a chemist who had allegedly performed a chemical analysis of the various brands of smoke fluid reported that most of them are nothing more than scented mineral oil.

Nothing was resolved concerning the question of whether using another brand of smoke fluid could possibly damage a smoke generator, as near as I recall.
