Attention all readers of our forum and website: Garden Railways is in the midst of a website redesign. The biggest benefit will be for those of you reading on smaller screens (tablets, phones, etc.) It will be "responsive" and automatically adjust to fit your screen. For a similar example, please see Model Railroader's website.
Our forums will undergo changes too. The biggest one is that we are combining the four forums into one. All current content will be moved into one forum. There will be visual changes to the forum, and some of your settings may change. Again, see Model Railroader's forum for an example of how it will look.
The final switchover will start December 15. There may be delays or outages during this time. Final launch is December 17.
We hope you will like the new website. There will be a better search engine, tagging to find related articles, and no more "archiving" of articles. We're excited about it here!

In the combination of fora, will GR still have an 'identity' as it does now? Or will we as readers have to parse through all the other scales to find our chosen scale posts. It would be nice if we could enter the forum, choose GR, and then find business as usual (factoring in the software changes that inevitably be there).

I honestly can't answer that. With the newly-designed websites like Model Railroader and Trains, if you go to that website and navigate to the forum, that's the only forum you see. If you come in through trains.com, most likely you'll see all the forums.
My understanding is that the "innards" of the forums will remain the same. The changes here will be primarily cosmetic. The general GR website is the piece that will be completely overhauled.
Thank you for your reply. That is basically what I was hoping for, the same division of content, just a new way of getting there.

One small request, please. The "I am here" line (Home>Garden Railways>Forum>you are here) is now only at the top of the page. It uesd to be also at the bottom of the page, making navigation easy. Now I have to scroll and scroll and scroll to get back to the top of the page.

Then there probably should be some icon deciphering page so we know what little blue blobs mean, eh? Not a real friendly format, but, then, new formats never are..once you've become accustomed to the old.
Want a real deal breaker? I did a quick reply. Two lines, no more showing, figured that was it. Posted. It did four lines up to where I quit trying. Edit feature showed all of it.
I noticed the same thing. Put the mouse into the text box to scroll up and nothing. Tried the up/down arrows and it scrolled just fine. Just going to take a while to get used to things. Not near as bad as I was expecting though.
One of the reasons I never click on icons not adequately described as to function by the website in question is you just don't know what it's going to do.
For all I know, that little blue triangle signs you up for a lifetime subscription to Buttons and Bows.

Holy carpzilla! I just realized it really is now all just one big messy forum. No distinct subforums to keeps thing in order, how is that really an "improvement"?? its harder to figure out where thing are, the Your Discussions option also no longer works for me, also the grey bar "Our Magazine" etc, as is, is very very very annoying as it opens whenever I scroll over it regardless whether I want it to open or not, thats going to get VERY OLD very fast. As it goes completely across the screen theres NO WAY to avoid tripping it, please CHANGE it or make the opened windows smaller so they dont dominate the screen
Oh, I know...especially if you use the little blue triangle thingie...your cursor ends up above the grey bar...try to bring it down to re-select the magazine, and POW! ZING! POP!
Old fast is hardly descriptive.
Remember..these are the folks who brought you the advertising overlays.....
I found if you take the curser around the bar on the far right of the screen it won't trip the links. It's a work around but not a solution.

I made a mistake when writing this on my phone and when I went back to edit it, I CAN'T I can't do ANYTHING but write and post in Android! Its worse than Twitter. When I tried to open the full site it simply DOES NOT WORK. Things open but the curser disappears. I had to break out the tablet to fix it and add this. But the mobile version on Android is really weak.
Now if we could figure out how to kill the right column...log in and all that bs.....we'd have a readable area of full screen width.
There are add-ons for google to kill columns....there is even Fluff Busting Purity, which kill all the bs off of Faceplant.
Maybe we need a BHO on Clambake Forums.

I just run the screen size up to 150% and the postings are all that shows. The right column drops to the bottom of the page. Also at 150% The Full screen "pop-ups" Vic was talking about are NOT so big. At least that is what I'm getting in Google Chrome browser.
However, the new format has killed my background spellcheck.
Spell check didn't work for me at all on the last iteration of theis forum. So no change there.
I just tried zooming in, if it affects the other open windows, that's no good. Find out shortly.

Its not so bad on my desktop, but it a royal PITA on my tablet
Haven't tried it on the laptop yet. So many things are screwy on 8. I just keep using XP...works good until some website decides they won't support it.
