new to g scale i have for now a 24ft oval set up and was looking into transformers. Do you need a certain transformer if you want to do wireless dcc, or Aristo-Craft TE Revolution Remote Control? Want to run around layout but wasnt sure what and if i can expand to different operation regardless with what transformer i start with. Thanks, Tom
If you're going to do DCC, then the power supply is--generally--included with the DCC command station. For something small like a 24' oval, a 5-amp system will likely be adequate, but if you're thinking of expanding, then I'd be tempted to go for a 10-amp system at the outset. You could also always add boosters later (see my current DCC Basics series running in GR).
If you're looking at the Aristo Revolution system, then you'll want a regulated DC power supply. I'd probably opt for something in the 18 - 24 volt range with a 10-amp capacity. Aristo makes one such unit, but you can find other power supplies as well. Meanwell is generally highly-recommended.
It's worth noting that you can also use the regulated DC power supply to power a DCC booster (if it doesn't come with its own power supply) if you decide to start with one system and migrate to another.

Trains are moving to higher and higher current requirements.
The Aristo revolution base unit is rated at 15 amp capability. Other manufacturers have 15 amp units also.
Zimo (for 2 years now) is designing a DCC unit with a 12 and 8 amp output which can be added together for 20 amps at 24 volts.
Greg runs a high speed train and is drawing around 10 amps with DCC control.
So, I would not go with anything less than 10 amps and 24 volts for track power.
